About the Edition

Wallace is an old, sour, womanising, cantankerous, whisky-sodden beast of a failed poet and drama critic, but he has his faults too. Fired from his newspaper, months behind on his alimony payments and disgusted with a world that undervalues him, Ted seeks a few months repose and free drink at Swafford Hall, the country mansion of his old friend Lord Logan. But strange things have been going on at Swafford. Miracles. Healings. Phenomena beyond the comprehension of a mud-caked hippopotamus like Ted.

I love the Christmas carol of I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas since I was a little girl. So when I found a book that is based off of that song. I knew for a fact that I had to check it out and read it to my kids/5. "I've suffered for my art, now its your turn." So begins the tale of Ted Wallace, known (unaffectionately) as the Hippopotamus. Failed poet, failed theater critic, failed father and husband, Ted has his faults too: he is a shameless womanizer, drinks too much, and is at odds in his cranky but maddeningly logical way with most of modern life.4/5(16).

Little Hippo’s AR books exist at the intersection of gaming and reading, technology and literacy, imagination and education. Using innovative augmented reality technology, Little Hippo books engage /5(K).   This is probably my favorite baby-age book of all time. Like the other Boynton books, it is easy to handle (the board pages are quite tough), very brightly illustrated with the most delightful drawings (imagine a hippopotamus hiding behind a tree!), and features a simple but wonderful seems that all the animals have wonderful things to do, and they 5/5(5).

The cantankerous, alcoholic, abusive, yet strangely charming hero of The Hippopotamus is clearly based on the late Kingsley Amis, and you can view the whole book as a kind of homage to him.
